Wynyard Woods Care Home, a part of the Anchor Group has created an exciting new 3D interactive village inside the home for residents to enjoy with the help of Find Memory Care.
Always looking for ways to help improve the lives of the residents, Kath Sargent, Wynyard Woods Care Home Manager has introduced themed areas and interactive 3D shops into her care home to give the residents a greater opportunity to socialise and interact with others according to their preferences. Wynyard Woods, near Billingham, provides residential and dementia care for 50 residents.
The new areas include a seaside scene with a Punch and Judy show. An extensive tailor-made 3D interactive village scene incorporating a village store and the Wynyard Woollen clothes shop, a post office where residents can go and post letters, a cafe where many residents can be found having a nice cup of tea and a garden scene which has been brought to life with sounds of the outdoors, garden benches and flowers.
This exciting new development has used some of the latest design innovations by incorporating tailored murals, specifically designed lighting and working windows which residents can open to access the items behind.
Kath commented “The new areas have been brought to life with the help of Find Memory Care to ensure best practices in dementia care are reflected. Since the introduction of the murals and 3D shops, the home has seen many more residents opting to sit in the additional areas. Our murals have a significant purpose and offer many benefits that both our residents and their families can enjoy”
Studies of care setting environments have shown that murals, when used correctly, can help to reduce the stress of people living with dementia. Not only do the murals create a splash of colour, but they also add a functional use for the residents when incorporated into the environment and activities.
