With increasing awareness of the benefits gained by having a dementia-friendly environment, more and more care providers are looking at ways they can improve the look and feel of their care facility.
By using dementia-friendly wall murals and interactive furniture an environment that promotes meaningful interaction between the residents/patients their families and staff can be achieved.
How to murals work?
Wall murals can help create a refreshed and interesting environment that encourages social interaction. The murals and furniture act as aids to help the residents/patients enjoy a better quality of life.
Remember! Murals are more than wall art. They have to be used to create a themed area with interactive elements. For example, if a mural is of a Post Office or a Café there should be somewhere to post a letter or have a cup of coffee.
The right murals stimulate memories and feelings of well being. They encourage the residents to become more active and engaged in the environment.
Remember that incorporating the wrong mural can be more detrimental to the residents. We suggest you seek professional help in planning your environment.
