Staff at both Find Memory Care and their sister company the Memory Care Store based in Leeds West Yorkshire have been rolling out Dementia Friends information sessions to all of its employees, in order to help them support people living or caring for someone with dementia.
The Dementia Friends programme is designed to help change people’s perceptions of Dementia, transforming the way people think, act and talk about the condition.
Karen Clayton, Find’s Dementia Friends Champion has been working within the company to ensure the whole team are now Dementia Friends. The knowledge gained will help everyone both understand the value of what we do as a business, as well as enable them to support people in their personal lives.
Anthony Cockcroft, CEO of Find Memory Care commented ”Having our team become Dementia Friends, not only helps us as a company better understand the challenges facing people with dementia and their families but will also help us as individuals.
As a company whose focus is on improving the quality of life for people living with dementia, it is also important to remember many of our own employees are likely to be affected by dementia. By focusing on raising awareness and improving skills, our team are now more aware of how to communicate, relate and support people affected by the condition.”
Research carried out by the Alzheimer’s society has shown there are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to 1 million by 2025.
