Always looking for ways to help improve the lives of the residents. The team at the Old Vicarage have been working alongside Find to brighten up hallways, introduce dementia-friendly signage and create interesting focal points throughout the home.
Light Enabling Vinyl
Light enabling vinyl's have been placed on glass doors and surrounds to obscure the view and discourage resident from trying to exit. By using the vinyl light can still get into the hallway, however, by using the image of a railing residents are deterred from trying to exit.
Bus Stop and door murals
Studies of care setting environments have shown that murals, when used correctly, can help to reduce the stress of people living with dementia. Not only do the murals at the Old Vicarage create a splash of colour with beautiful views of the Lake District, but they also add a point of interest for residents.
Window-cals have been used along corridors to create focal points and to enhance the living space.
Dementia friendly toilet signage has been put in place to aid way-finding and to help residents maintain their independence.
Along with the improvements above, the home has also introduced memory boxes, dementia-friendly clocks and orientation boards to encourage interaction and aid orientation.
