Continence Strategy Generates Positive Results

The find continence strategy is centred around using multiple cue concepts to communicate feelings of confidence and independence amongst service users. Moreover we hope to maintain or restore dignity.

The strategy works by using a variety of cues that establish a route to the toilet. For example, a coloured sign which presents a 3D picture of a toilet provides instant recognition of the location. The toilet seat itself is brightly coloured and can be complimented with coloured hand rails which offer guidance and deliver confidence when sitting down.

Care homes who have adopted this strategy are seeing positive results. Darren Kelly is manager of a Bupa Care Home in Paisley, Scotland and says, 'The signs have contributed to reducing the time spent dealing with incontinence. This puts a positive spin on their workloads and they can enjoy quality time with service users.'

find Sponsors Scottish Working Group and their trip to Singapore Conference

The Scottish Dementia Working Group recently embarked on a trip to Singapore for the 24th Alzheimer’s Disease International Conference. Their aim is to overcome a number of concerns.

Living with dementia, they are using their first-hand experience to raise awareness of what it’s really like to have dementia. Their aim is that through their campaigning, we see improved services, improved training and a shift in policy.

A representative from the Working Groups says, "If we are to challenge the implications dementia presents in the same way we have for cancer, heart disease and diabetes, then our approach needs to be a strategic one."

find fully supports their campaign. As Peter Rose, Managing Director at find says, "We commend the Scottish Working Group in their campaign as their voice is perhaps one of the most powerful. We need to listen and learn. That's why I believe it is important to support them in any way we can".

New crockery range a first for the UK

Hot on the trail of initial successes of our Wade Ceramics "Dignity" range of crockery, we have introduced a new range of coloured Melamine crockery to compliment our range and, more importantly, to provide the same benefits to people with dementia, for whom a heavy, ceramic product will not be appropriate. This is a find exclusive product in the Care Home sector

I think they look great...

"On installing the large toilet signs, two residents who had not been able to find the toilet room previously, are now able to do so for the first time.

We are delighted with this very positive change."
